2025-26 AUDITION MATERIALS

​Jazz Band Auditions will take place March 13th from 3:15pm-5pm or finished in the AFHS band room. There are no signups. Just show up and get in line. As always if you are going to have a conflict please let Mr. Landis know and we will work out a time for you to play your audition.  Come prepared to play the following tune along with the play along track. Practice with the track for best results. 

Play along track 
Altos and Bari (Eb) 
Tenors and Trumpet (Bb) 
Trombone and Bass Guitar 
Guitar, Piano, and Drums 


All Wind Instruments: Play head (the melody) through 1 time. Then solo over the changes 1 times through. Then play through the head 1 last time. In all 3 times through the song.  Be prepared to play any scales that you know (Major, Dorian, Mixolydian). If you don't know them, don't worry, we'll teach you!

Guitar: Play head (the melody) through 1 time. Then comp 2nd time through. On the third and fourth time play solo. That is a total of 4 times. 

Bass Guitar: Play through the head once, then walk the bass line through once and then improvise through the changes once. Be prepared to play any scales that you know (Major, Dorian, Mixolydian). If you don't know them, don't worry, we'll teach you!

Vocalists: Singer will be auditioning by singing Route 66 arranged by Mark Taylor. Click the links below to view the music. There is a live version link of a band playing with the vocals and a Sing-A-Long version. For the audition you will be singing with the Sing-A-Long version.

Drums: Play through the play along with Yardbird Suite 2 times through. Then play the following styles
​ Play 16 measures of the following styles
1. Swing
2. Funk
3. Bossa
4. Samba
5. Rock

2024-25 Jazz Band AUDITION RESULTS

THANK YOU!!! to all those who auditioned for the Cavemen of Note and Intermediate Jazz Band for the 2024-25 school year. We were impressed by those who auditioned in how much everyone was prepared. We are hoping to return to Greeley or another jazz festival in 2024-25 school year. This will be with both groups pending parent approval. More details to follow as we get into the next school year.
