Band dad: the toughest job you'll ever love!
While often referred to as "Band Dads", these volunteers are made up of men and women, parents and former students, family and friends. Many people don't realize the hundreds of hours put in by volunteers to make the American Fork Band program the success it is today!
A typical show day consists of five evolutions for volunteers:
1. Semi Load at AFHS
2. Semi Unload at show venue
3. Front ensemble / prop deployment & retrieval on field. This is a timed evolution.
4. Semi Load at show venue
5. Semi Unload at AFHS
We load the two AF Band Semi-Trailers full of equipment, instruments & uniforms, top to bottom and front to back. We also usually load our smaller trailer with props and more instruments.
We are ALWAYS looking for more volunteers! These are physically demanding evolutions, and any help is welcomed, even if it is just for one or two of the five evolutions. You do not need to commit to coming to every show or to helping with every evolution at a given show.
While the majority of the needs are during marching band show season, Band Dads help at other events year round!
Come make some new friends, and share in the satisfaction of helping your student and others to have the opportunity to participate in a world class band!
