American Fork Marching Band Uniforms
The American Fork Marching Band Uniform should be worn and cared for with pride. You will be held responsible for the cost of replacement of any part of your uniform or uniform bag that is not returned in good condition at the end of the marching band season.
General Information:
· The Uniform is ALWAYS to be hung up and in the uniform bag when not being worn.
· After a sweaty/rainy performance, air out pieces separately before storing in the bag.
· Do not eat anything while in your uniform.
· Drink only water while in your uniform.
· Any alteration you make to the uniform must be temporary and reversible.
For example: if you shorten the pants, don’t cut off the excess fabric.
· Your Uniform is to be DRY CLEANED ONLY, Durfey’s Dry Cleaners in A.F. is recommended, they know how to properly clean them for best results.
o Dry clean after summer parade season.
o Dry clean once during field show season (mid-October)
o Dry clean before handing uniform back in.
o Dry clean anytime the uniform smells bad or becomes soiled.
o Pieces can be cleaned individually. (May use febreeze inside only).
· A $25 cleaning fee will be added to any student who turns in their uniform without dry cleaning it.
Specific Information:
Hat
· Store hat in the box at all times when not traveling. When traveling, store hat in the large pocked in the uniform bag. Do not store the hat with the rain cover on.
· Keep the hat protector in the hat during performances and when being stored.
· Wear gloves if you need to touch the feathers. The oils on your skin with make the feathers turn yellow.
· Do Not allow the hat to get wet, sit in the sun or in a hot car!!! It will melt in the heat.
Tunic
· Tunic is to be hung up on its own hanger in the uniform bag at all times. Use only the heavy band hangers during the band season.
· Tunic sleeve length is to the middle of the hand while hands are at your sides. At the wrist while playing your instrument.
· You are responsible to see that all buttons are in place – extras are available in the black box.
Gloves
· The first pair of gloves is provided to you. Replacement gloves cost $5.00 a pair.
· Wash your gloves on your hands as if you were washing your hands with hand soap.
· Hang the gloves to dry them; they will shrink in the dryer.
Pants
· Hem length is to be ½ inch above the top of the heal at the back of the shoe. The front crease should hang nearly straight, without a crease and just touch the top of the shoe. Hemming at a slight angle (shorter in the front/longer in the back) is recommended. Use a damp cloth between iron and fabric when pressing.
· Pants are to be hung on their own hanger in the uniform bag at All times.
· Hang so creases and seams are matching and lying flat.
· Uniforms are never to be worn wrinkled.
Socks
· Always wear clean black socks with your uniform. Tall socks, do not wear short or no shows.
· Make sure you have extra pairs of sock in your uniform bag at all times. Clean socks often.
Shoes
· You are responsible to buy your own shoes. They are ordered thorough the Band Boosters.
· Clean and polish your shoes prior to each performance. Baby wipes work great!
· Shoes are yours to keep. You may donate your shoes to the band at the end of your senior year if you choose.
Hair
· All hair must be above the tunic collar. All hair must be cut shorter than the collar or must be pinned up. Men/ Women alike.
· No earrings, facial jewelry, or facial hair allowed while in uniform.
Uniform Bag
· You will receive a color coded name/instrument tag for your bag. Keep it in your bag at all times so it can be easily identified.
· The Uniform bag needs to be laundered once during band season. While your uniform is at the dry cleaners, put the bag through a normal cycle in the washing machine. Hang to dry. Be sure to remove your name tag before you wash the bag and replace it once it is cleaned.
· Authorized heavy duty hangers are available to hang your uniform. The cost is $2.00 each.
